INSIDE THE CATHEDRAL – WITH KAROLINA CICHA

We got it! Karolina Cicha – well known figure from Polish indie scene, singer, composer, multiinstrumentalist and actress – sang on our new album.

– We’ve invited Karolina to do it long before we’ve locked ourselves in the studio, just after our collective gigs in 2010 (see short film). Her answer was ‘yes’ – says STILO’ leader, Wojtek. – In the fall of 2012 we’ve started recording sessions, so we had to try to organize our collaboration, which was not easy. Karolina was very busy these days and I was still not sure which composition would be good for her. During recording sessions and works on long, epic “Atan” I’ve started to see in this piece, or rather to hear, some voices…

In January 2013 Karolina had received e-mail with backin’ tracks of “Atan”, made in ADAM Recording Studio. Just few days later she had sent the band five vocal tracks, recorded in her own mini-home-studio.

– Initially I thought it was just five different takes – recalls Wojtek. – Then I discovered that this five tracks created one orchestra of voices! Wow! It was really big thing! Like to turn the sound in TV-set on…

In final mixes this fragment of “Atan” had occured the real ocean of sound waves, from which emerges some voices, hypnotic melodies played by Sylwia Świątkowska on fidel, crescendos an diminuendos on acoustic guitar and trance rhythms created by frame drums and drums.

– When I came the studio that day we were to give the instrumental shape of this part of „Atan”, I told the engineer : ‘Today we gonna build the cathedral”… – recounts Wojtek.
